A man has been taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation following a house fire in Christchurch.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on Pages Rd, Aranui at 2.54pm on Thursday.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman Brent Dunn said the house was “well involved” in fire when two crews from the Anzac station and another from Woolston arrived.

He said the house received “extensive damage” and a man had been injured in the blaze.

St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said the man was in a moderate condition following smoke inhalation and was taken to Christchurch Hospital.

The crews had extinguished the blaze shortly before 4.30pm.

Dunn said a fire investigator would be sent to determine the cause of the blaze. At this stage, it was not being treated as suspicious
