A car crashed into an ATM machine in the central Taranaki town of Stratford on Thursday afternoon.

Police, fire and ambulance staff were called to the scene, in the town’s main street, just before 4pm.

The female driver was not badly injured but was being assessed by ambulance staff at the scene, Sergeant Andrew Russ of the Stratford police said.

It appeared the car had been in drive instead of reverse when she went to move away.

The front of the ATM was smashed and police were waiting for someone to arrive to repair it, he said.
