Few days ago, Iranian hackers hacked over 100 Israeli websites disabling the sites and replacing them with a threatening message, which reads: “The countdown of Israel destruction has begun since a long time ago”. The affected websites are under the Israeli uPress Server, which has a little vulnerability in it that gave way to the attack.

This attack was launched as a counterattack to the May 9 Israeli attack of Iranian port, where operations at the Port were disrupted for days. As to the Iranian attack, the Israeli authorities said: “We detected a weakness in a WordPress add on, that enabled the hack and we are working closely with the National Cyber Bureau to research the breach and fix the affected sites.”

Israeli securities and civilian bodies (of hackers) have been underestimating the capabilities of Iran in cyberspace. Hackers in Israel do not view Iran as a major threat, some feel that Iran is not a major player in this arena when compared to Israel and cyber powerhouses like the United States, China, Russia and other Western countries. Others believe that even if Iran is not among the world cyber leaders, it is definitely enhancing its capabilities.
