Mario Balotelli arrived at Manchester City with a lofty reputation.
The Italian forward was considered one of the best youngsters in world football when Manchester City decided to pay €21.8 million for him in 2010.https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-37/html/container.html?n=0
However, his stint at the club was marred with controversy both on and off the field.
And one of his most ridiculous moments in a City shirt came in the summer of 2011.
Balotelli was part of a City side that travelled to the United States for a friendly against LA Galaxy.
It all started off so well for the then 20-year-old – he scored an early penalty to give his side the lead.
But he then hit the headlines for his antics just before the half-an-hour mark.
The Italian striker found himself clear on goal and with a golden opportunity to notch his second.
But, incredibly, Balotelli tried a trick-shot when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
His shot went harmlessly wide and Edin Dzeko expressed his anguish.
Roberto Mancini didn’t see the funny side either as he went ballistic on the touchline. He decided to take Balotelli off and the two argued as he made his way to the bench.
Balotelli later said he thought the whistle had gone and play was stopped.
But Mancini proceeded to tear him apart in his post-match interview.
“I hope this is a lesson,” said Roberto Mancini, per the BBC.
