Theophilus Soyombo, a professor of sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the university, was appointed on the acting vice chancellor by the Governing Council of the university led by Dr Wale Babalakin during a meeting in Abuja.

Prof Theophilus Soyombo has said that he had assumed office as Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Akoka.

He told Tribune on Friday that he assumed duties immediately he was named.

He was born in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on September 6, 1956.

He attended Owu Baptist Day School, Abeokuta

He had his secondary education at Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta; and
Abeokuta Grammar School.
He studied at the University of Lagos between 1974 and 1977.

He obtained his masters degree in Sociology from the University of Essex, England.
He is a former Managing Director at University of Lagos Consult and former Dean faculty of Social Sciences.

As the Human Development Iniyiayives notes, he is also a consultant sociologist for various institutions and Government agencies.

He is a member of the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Association and member Integrated Transport Initiative.
