
A police officer has been suspended after he was filmed kneeling on a suspect’s neck during an arrest despite screams to stop.
The footage was captured by an unnamed witness at around 6.30pm in Islington, London, yesterday and has since been circulated widely on social media.
Another officer has been placed on restricted duties, Metropolitan Police said.
In the clip, the handcuffed man screamed ‘get off my neck’ as concerned members of the public surrounded the officers pleading ‘he’s a human being’.
The arrest comes after George Floyd, 36, died in Minneapolis when a police officer knelt on his neck for eight minutes, sparking mass protests across the world. ‘Get off my neck!:
Met Police ‘kneel on man’s neck’ during arrest

Officers were called to a fight in Isledon Road, Islington. They arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon, the force said.
Footage posted on social media on showed a man being detained on the ground shouting: ‘Get off my neck.’
Inquiries into the circumstances continue and the Met has referred it to the police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
