Nine cross-border armed robbery syndicate terrorising Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa states arrested.

The police spokesman, Ahmed Wakili said this during a conversation with our correspondent.

He said that a team of detectives smashed a cross-border armed robbery syndicate terrorising Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa states. Nine suspects were arrested in connection with the crime in the three states.

According to him, the suspects confessed to have been operating for a long time, stolen many vehicles in the three states and sold them in Cameroon and Niger Republic.

Wakili said, “On June 12, 2020 at 10.03pm, a distress call was received from one Abdullahi of Agric Quarter, Tirwun, along Maiduguri Road, Bauchi, that armed robbers were holding him hostage at his residence.

“After they collected his Honda CRV, ATM card, among others, they forced him to give the ATM pin code which they later used to withdraw the sum of N120,000 from his account.

“On receipt of the information, a team of operatives attached to the Command Intelligence Bureau swung into action and arrested eight suspects.”

Wakili said those arrested include Musa Ahmed, aka Morale (21); Musa Garba, aka Antidote (22); Mustapha Almustapha aka Khalifa (19); and Yakubu Musa, aka Gwaska.

Others are Lukuman Ibrahim aka Ajasu (23), Ahmed Buhari, aka DJ; Abdullahi Lawal, aka Dogo; Isa Mohammed and Abdullahi Aliyu.

“The syndicate confessed to have been operating for a long time, around Taraba, Adamawa and Bauchi states where they stole many vehicles and sold them in Cameroon and Niger Republic,” he said.

Exhibits recovered, according to him, included one Honda CRV with the number plate, TFB273RC, one rubber pistol gun, one machete, five handsets, N119,000 cash, a laptop and ATM cards.

Wakili said the Commissioner of Police, Lawan Jimeta, enjoined the people of the state to report any suspicious individual or group. He called on parents and guardians to be inquisitive and keep their children under watch.
