The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Borno State has said that 15 health workers in the state have been infected with COVID-19 due to lack of Personal Protective Equipment(PPE), and has urged the state government to provide adequate kits for frontline health workers.
Speaking to Daily Trust in Maiduguri, the chairman of the state NLC, Comrade Bulama Abiso, said workers however appreciated the efforts made so far in combating the virus and payment of stipends to the front line workers at isolation centre.
“There are about 15 frontline health workers currently being isolated because of the pandemic, we have received reports that many don’t have PPE, we are now calling on the government to provide full PPE for these people.
“We learned that health workers are in need of face masks and other equipment to enable them fight this pandemic effectively. We urge the task force committee on COVID-19 to as matter of urgency provide necessary kits for the frontline health workers in the state,” he urged.
